The UNLIMITED 2026 Essay Competition is a national-level research competition where students present applied research ideas on Industry 6.0 transformation, sustainable development, and climate adaptation.

About the Competition

Applied research for two participant tracks, four themes per track, one final presentation.

The UNLIMITED 2026 Essay Competition is a national-scale academic writing contest — open to university students from national and international institutions, as well as high school students from across Indonesia.

Teams choose one of four sub-themes per category related to the Industry 6.0 transformation, develop an applied research idea, and defend their work before a panel of judges at the Grand Opening in Semarang.

Participant Tracks

Two separate tracks to ensure fair and relevant competition.

University

National & Int'l

Active university students enrolled at a university in Indonesia or abroad, as proven by a valid Student ID card.

For technical and applied research from a university perspective. Open nationally and internationally. Paper must be written in English.

  • Separate from high school track
  • Open to national and international participants
  • 4 sub-themes: Smart Energy, Digital Health, AgriTech, Eco-Digital
  • Finals presentation: 26 September 2026

High School

National

Active students enrolled at a senior high school or vocational high school in Indonesia, as proven by a valid Student ID card.

For students bringing scientific ideas and technology solutions at an early stage. Paper must be written in Indonesian.

  • Separate from university track
  • 4 sub-themes: Energy, Health, Agriculture, Environment
  • Finals presentation: 25 September 2026

University Track

Smart Energy Transition

Renewable energy (solar, wind), smart grid systems, real-time energy management, efficiency & stability, digital optimization (AI, IoT).

Digital Health and Human Resilience

AI-driven healthcare, early diagnosis & prediction, telemedicine, climate-related health risks, human resilience.

Sustainable AgriTech

Precision farming, data-driven agriculture, sensors & drones, resource efficiency, sustainable production.

Eco-Digital Convergence

Digital environmental monitoring, big data & sustainability, policy transparency, smart governance, climate action.

Technical requirements to review before submitting your work.

General Rules

  • The paper must be written in English (for the national and international university student category)
  • The essay must be scientific, original, and must not have been previously published or submitted to any other competition
  • Each team is only allowed to submit one paper, and can only choose one subtheme from the given subthemes
  • Registered participants are not permitted to join more than one team
  • The paper must be free from plagiarism and must include clearly cited references

Team Size

Participants may register individually or form a team consisting of 2–3 active members from the same institution.

Writing Format

  • File format: PDF, maximum size 10 MB
  • Essay length: 10–15 pages (excluding bibliography and appendices)
  • Font: Times New Roman 12pt, 1.5 line spacing, 2.5 cm margins
  • Bibliography using APA 7th Edition style

Who can register?

The Essay Competition is open to two categories: (1) Active university students from national and international institutions, and (2) High school students (SMA/SMK or equivalent) from across Indonesia.

Must I register as a team?

Participants may register individually or form a team of 2–3 members from the same institution. Full details will be provided in the official guidebook.

Can I choose my own sub-theme?

Yes. Participants are free to choose one of the available sub-themes based on their team's interests and expertise. Each team can only submit one essay for one sub-theme.

What are the registration and presentation deadlines?

Registration opens in 3 waves (12 May – 20 July 2026). Finalist presentations are scheduled for September 25 (High School) and September 26, 2026 (University) in Semarang.

What language should the essay be in?

High school participants write in Indonesian. University participants (national and international) write in English.

What is the required essay length?

Essay length is 10–15 pages excluding bibliography and appendices. Complete format details (font, margins, spacing) are available in the official guidebook.

Can I submit an essay that has been presented elsewhere?

No. Submitted essays must be original and never previously published or competed in any competition before.
